8-YOUTH-RALLY-FLIER

SPUC is hitting the road this summer

RACHEL KIDD, field officer for SPUC Scotland, gives us an insight into the organisation’s busy summer schedule

Every space has been filled for our Project Truth Roadshow, which unfortunately means that there is no more room for full time volunteers, but for those still wishing to help, we are still looking for day helpers. This is a great opportunity for those who can volunteer to help out as we pass through each of the respective cities. We will also have time in the evenings to visit the town we’re in that day.

The roadshow will be launched in Edinburgh on Mon August 11, after which we will travel to Dundee (August 12), Aberdeen (August 13), Perth (August 14) and Stirling (August 15), concluding with the Project Truth Youth Rally back in Glasgow on Saturday August 16.

For any of you who want to volunteer your time while we pass through each of your cities, we would be absolutely delighted to have your support. If you are wondering what ‘supporting’ us would entail here are bullet points of ways you can help us:

—Distribute the Project Truth leaflets about the development of the unborn child.

—Invite people to take a look at the stall where there will be fetal models, pro-life literature, free pens and sweets and images of the unborn child.

—Gather signatures for a pro-life petition

—Engage with passers-by in pro-life discussions that come up.

For anyone who has never done anything like this before, we will have experienced volunteers at hand to guide and support you, so don’t worry if you feel inexperienced. Although we would encourage you to step out and help support us we would also encourage you not to do anything you would not feel comfortable with. Every little helps so we would be happy to have your support in any capacity. If you would like more information on the road show please feel free to email [email protected].

Information on the exact locations in each city will be posted soon and details for the Youth Rally will be covered in the next blog post.

We are rounding off our Project Truth Roadshow with a Youth Rally in Glasgow on Saturday August 16 from 3pm-6pm. This event will take place at Turnbull Hall, Glasgow University Catholic Chaplaincy and is open to all aged 16-30, whether or not they have participated in the roadshow itself. During this event attendees will hear testimonies from those who participated in the roadshow & inspirational talks from the following pro-life organisations and individuals:

Youth Defence

Youth Defence is the largest and most active pro-life organisation in Ireland, led by young people who believe that life is worth protecting. They have more than 5000 people in their network who work tirelessly engaging with the public on the subject of abortion, in order to keep Ireland abortion free. They bring the pro-life message to the streets, universities, schools and even the offices of their members of parliament.

Members from the Youth Defence team will be there to share some of their incredible work with you and help you discover how you can make a powerful difference in the pro-life movement.

The Alliance of Pro-Life Students

APS is a youth-led organisation run by students and graduates for students. They are the only organisation solely dedicated to equipping young people at university campuses nationwide to start and sustain pro-life societies, helping them to thrive.

Some of the APS team will be there to share the story of how in the past two years they have grown to be a leading light in the pro-life movement in the UK. If you are a student, or will be going to university in the next couple of years, this will be a great opportunity to hear how you can bring the pro-life message to your university campus.

Sr Roseann Reddy (Cardinal Winning Pro-Life Initative)

In 1997, Cardinal Thomas Joseph Winning launched a major practical initiative to help women facing a crisis pregnancy and from this, the Cardinal Winning Pro-Life Initiative was founded. In the past 17 years we have assisted countless women and their families, practically, financially, emotionally and spiritually.

Sr Roseann will be speaking to us about the ‘pro-choice’ argument and how so many women, who decide to have an abortion, do so because they feel they have no other choice. Through Sr Roseann we will hear about the importance of pro-life action in a crisis pregnancy situation.

Margaret Cuthill (ARCH)

ARCH is dedicated to helping the many victims struggling with the emotional and psychological damage of abortion, through counselling and supportive help. This includes looking at their grief, guilt and remorse.

Margaret Cuthill has been working with ARCH for 27 years, giving a courageous, powerful and personal witness concerning her own abortions and reaching out in compassion to others in need, as someone who has suffered the pain of abortion herself. This will be an opportunity to hear about the effects of abortion on the mothers, fathers and family members, but also the healing which can take place. ARCH is an essential reminder of the importance of compassion when engaging in any pro-life work.

Catherine MacMillan

Catherine is a young single mum to a severely disabled little girl called Sara. Catherine recently graduated from Glasgow University with a Bachelor of Music with Honours.

Catherine will be sharing her testimony of how she faced her crisis pregnancy and the news that her daughter would be born with several disabilities. Her testimony will undoubtedly move and inspire you!

The event cost is £5—payments should be made at the door, but tickets purchased in advance online. Please contact [email protected] to book.
