Body found in Clydebank identified as missing Catholic schoolgirl

Murder inquiry underway for Turnbull High's Paige Doherty, 15, missing since Saturday

Police are investigating the murder of a 15-year-old girl after a body found in Clydebank yesterday was confirmed as that of missing teenager Paige Doherty.

The petite schoolgirl, whose Facebook page says she attends Turnbull High in Bishopbriggs, was last seen on Saturday morning at around 8.20am in a local shop as she left a friend’s house in Angus Street, Clydebank. She was on her way to a hairdresser’s in Kirkintilloch where she worked. Her body was found on Monday at around 12.45pm in a wooded area near Great Western Road and not far from where she was last seen.

Police Detective Superintendent Duncan Sloan today confirmed to media that the body was that of Paige, telling reporters it was a ‘harrowing time’ for Ms Doherty’s family.

Paige’s mother Pamela Munro posted a message on Facebook on behalf of her and Paige’s stepfather Andy Munro. “Myself and Andy Munro would like to thank everyone for their support and help in trying to find our daughter,” she writes. “Unfortunately we can confirm that it is our beautiful girl Paige who was found in Clydebank.

“Again thank u for all ur support. I am seeing everyone’s messages but understandably we’ve a lot on our minds n can’t reply. We are absolutely devastated, as will many people who know her will be xxx.”

Police have appealed for help in tracing Paige’s last movements. A post-mortem examination is being carried out to establish the exact cause of the teenager’s death.
