8-IMMACULATE-CONCEPTION

Silver jubilee brings together the people—and nationalities—of Maryhill parish

The Immaculate Conception parish in Glasgow celebrated the silver jubilee of its current church building with Archbishop Philip Tartaglia on November 9.

The parish has served the Maryhill community since 1851, with three churches built over the last century and a half. Current parish priest Fr Jim Lawlor marked the occasion with the Archbishop, celebrating Mass in the lively community that takes pride in its welcoming and multicultural character.

The day was extra special for couple Frank and Jean McGarry, who were married in the church 67 years ago and brought down the offertory during the anniversary Mass. The couple are pictured above (left) with pupils from John Paul Academy and parishioners from India, Africa and Asia. (Right) John Paul Academy pupils take a selfie with the Archbishop
