7-FERNHILL-A-LISTERS

Twin sisters at Fernhill School are exam A-listers

As pupils across Scotland celebrated receiving their exam results, it was a particularly special occasion for two pupils from Fernhill School in Rutherglen.

Twin sisters Khloe and Kaitlin Boswell (right), 17, who will shortly enter 6th year at the all-girls Catholic school, managed a clean sweep between them of 10 As in their Higher exams.

With yet another rise in the pass rate overall to 76.9 per cent the Boswell sisters were among thousands of pupils throughout the country who achieved even better results than ever before, but the perfect results from each of their five higher examinations stand as one of their most impressive achievements from this year’s diet of exams.

Both sisters are now planning to go to study at university, but not before returning to Fernhill for their final year and the chance to continue their fine record of results.

“I’m so glad that all our hard work paid off,” said Khloe, who plans to study dentistry. “I couldn’t be happier with my results and I’m now looking forward to returning to Fernhill for sixth year— hopefully I can get a few more As under my belt before I leave for university!”

The girls, however, were not the only pupils to achieve top results at Fernhill, as the school looks set to continue the academic performance which saw it ranked as the best all-girl school in Scotland in 2011, as well as the country’s best performing Catholic secondary.

Robert O’Donnell, headteacher at Fernhill, spoke of his delight at the 2012 results.

“The outstanding results are a direct reflection of the hard work shown by the pupils and teachers here at Fernhill,” he said. “They are the most enthusiastic and diligent young people I have ever had the fortune to work with. I am so glad that their hard work has truly paid off.”

While the Boswell twins’ achievement is so unusual, it is not a first for Fernhill, with twin sisters Caitlin and Danielle McGill also recording ten straight As in their Highers in 2010, after managing a combination of Grade 1 Standard Grades and Intermediate 2 As the previous year, just as the Boswell sisters did.

However, while the results are not unprecedented at Fernhill, they were only possible through hard work and study, and Kaitlin Boswell, who hopes to become a lawyer, concluded, saying: “Khloe and I have always worked hard at Fernhill and achieving ten As between us is the ultimate reward. I was so happy when I opened my certificate and saw the column of As down the page. The studying and extra classes were totally worth it.”
