5-MASS-APP

Mass-finder app launches in Motherwell

Catholics in Motherwell can now find Mass times across the diocese at their fingertips, as an exciting new app was launched earlier this month.

The Catholic App, which provides information on times for Mass and Confession, has been launched in Motherwell Diocese, making it easier for the faithful in the area to look up times when trying to get to church.

The app, which is available for both Android and Apple smartphones and tablets, also provides parish addresses, contact details and route directions, as well as indicating what the nearest churches are for Mass and Confession.

The app has been running for a number of months in St Andrews & Edinburgh Archdiocese. It was unveiled at the Vatican in 2016, where Archbishop Leo Cushley of St Andrews & Edinburgh said: “This is a little bit of smart technology that could make a big impact on how the Catholic Church brings the mercy of God and the joy of the Gospel to our contemporary world.”

Available to dioceses across the world, the software aims to ‘help dioceses and bishops’ conference reap the fruits of digital innovation, using The Catholic App and related technologies and global best practices.’

“The app was announced last week on the Motherwell Diocese Facebook page, but the process of announcing it in parishes and spreading the word, is just starting,” Maciej Zurawski of The Catholic App said. “Our vision is to build the digital Church, which guides and inspires Catholics and makes them more passionate about their Faith and more active.

“It is a smart companion that helps them to find Mass, Confession, churches, online parish communities, feast days, holy days of obligation and more. It covers both the Diocese of Motherwell and the Archdiocese of St Andrews & Edinburgh, so it is also great when they travel.”

Mr Zurawski added that around 1,000 people use the app each week, a number which is increasing, and around 70 per cent of users are under the age of 55.

“The app helps to make church demographically sustainable,” he said. “The app is regularly updated, so it gets better with time.”
