Terrorists may have plotted to attack famous French Cathedral

French Authorities believe they have foiled a planned terror attack on Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

Several gas cylinders and documents in Arabic were found in an unmarked car next the famous Parisian cathedral on Sunday.

The car, a Peugeot 607, was found with no number plates and had its hazard lights on, despite nobody being in the vehicle. French media reports suggest the abandoned car had no explosives or detonators inside but the gas tanks had the potential for a vast explosion.

The owner of the car and a woman, who are both known to security services, were arrested on Tuesday and anti-terror police have launched an investigation.

An employee working near the cathedral raised the alert on Sunday after noticing a gas cylinder on the back seat of the car. The cylinder was found to be empty but five full cylinders were found in the boot of the car.

The car was parked in a side street opposite the cathedral on the left bank of the Seine.

The news of this foiled attack comes two months after the murder of Father Jacques Hamel when he was saying mass in his parish, Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray.
