6-SCIAF-DUTTON

SCIAF chief gives his all for a new cycling adventure

SCIAF’s director is preparing to take to the road to bring the charity’s message to people across Scotland and help those in need in some of the poorest countries in the world.

Alistair Dutton’s effort to combat poverty across the world will see him cover more than 200 miles across Scotland, calling on supporters of SCIAF as well as the general public to go the extra mile themselves to help meet the needs of some of the most vulnerable people across the world.

Staring at Carfin Grotto on Sunday August 14 he will cycle through the country, finishing 200 miles later in Dunfermline on August 20.

Along the route Mr Dutton will climb of his bike to meet with prisoners in Shotts Prison, smile for the cameras in a celebrity photo-call with Libby McArthur and take to the field in a special SCIAF 5-a-side football competition, as well as meeting thousands of supporters in parishes and schools along the route.

He will also visit the Scottish Parliament to hand 6000 Wee Box, Big Change postcards to the Scottish Government’s External Affairs Minister, Alistair Allan MSP .

Looking ahead to his cycle the SCIAF director spoke about the need for ordinary people in Scotland to work to help those less fortunate than ourselves in the many countries across the world where SCIAF is working.

“Nearly a billion people in the world today go hungry every day because they are too poor to be able to buy food.” he said. “We can all do something to help them work their way out of poverty. I’m cycling across Scotland to urge supporters and the wider public to go the extra mile for SCIAF so together we can help more people in need.

“Every day, SCIAF and our partners are working in some of the poorest countries in the world, helping hundreds of thousands of people with seeds, farm tools, skills training and small loans so that they can buy more food, set up a business, and earn some money so they can support themselves and their families.

“I’ll be urging people to join the SCIAF family and help us on the road to creating a more just world for all.”

There will be a special Mass and family event to mark the start of Alastair’s ride. The event will be held in Carfin Lourdes Grotto from 11am—St Francis Xavier’s Church, Taylor Avenue, Carfin, Motherwell, ML1 5AJ. All are welcome to go along and support SCIAF and Ailstair in his amazing endeavour.
