Cumbernauld remembers victims of Tunisian attacks

Local Catholic priest joins mourners at Abronhill Church memorial service for Jim and Ann McQuire

Around 400 people gathered in Abronhill Church on Friday afternoon in memory of Jim and Ann McQuire (above), who were among the 38 people killed in the recent Tunisia terror attacks.

As well as the McQuires’ friends and family, the congregation included representatives from neighbouring churches including Fr Joe McAuley from St Lucy’s Parish.

People of all faiths throughout the community attended the service that incorporated the minute silence announced by the Government earlier that week. Abronhill Church Session Clerk Linda Gray thanked those from the community and beyond for their ‘messages of love and support.’

“We also had a lot of representatives from the Boys Brigade: the boys themselves and some of their parents,” Ms Gray said. “It was very nice and we are very grateful for all the love and support.”

The church banned media from the service in order to respect the privacy of the family and the wider congregation.

The church has also arranged a book of condolence that will remain open for signatures for the rest of this week.
