20 Imagine life as a sister

Online help to imagine religious life for women

A religious congregation of Catholic sisters and nuns from the US have unveiled a website entitled Imagine a Sister’s Life.

The www.lifeasasister.org website that allows Catholic women to examine what it would be like to be a nun and help these women make a decision about entering the sisterhood.

Sr Pat Dowling, vocation director of the Sisters of Bon Secours, identified the need for the new website.

“At a time when women can be anything they desire, we want them to know that religious life as a sister is an exciting option!” Sr Pat said. “Our site invites women from all walks of life, who are passionate about their faith, and who wish to use their unique gifts in helping others to explore, ask questions, imagine, and listen to the voice of God in their own hearts.”

Imagine a Sister’s Life helps women relate to life as a nun, by using a variety of interactive tools to help visualise the experience, do research on the sisterhood and help one enquire what it would be like to become a sister. The website has various videos that showcase through real nuns what life is like as a nun and what duties one would have throughout a typical day in the sisterhood.

The website also includes a blog, where Sr Fran Gorsuch writes about her experiences in the sisterhood. Not only that, but the website also has a chat room, which allows for interaction between nuns and prospective nuns in real time. Life as a Sister does provide several other multimedia tools for the user to interact with nuns, while also helping them discover if the sisterhood is their true calling. The website has also been designed to be used with mobile phones so users can access it on the move.

Imagine a Sister’s Life is a great website that really gives women insight in what it would be like to step into a nuns shoes.
