  1. Philip M. McGhee says:

Some other recent examples of noble “beasts” to join Pvt Wojtek’s company. Rocky, a German Shepherd of Niagara Falls Police Dept, who fell to his death while chasing a burglar a few weeks ago; Lex, another German Shepherd, who refused to leave his mortally wounded USMC handler. His handler’s family later adopted Lex. His life story is on Wikipedia and Youtube. (Have some tissues handy. The story is a real tear-jerker. It even had Marine Corps generals in tears.) And Hercules, a St.Bernard, who had been attacked by Coyotes. When he was adopted by a family, he immediately attacked a burglar in the family’s home.
