Irish community welcomes Pope to Scotland

Glasgow is proudly celebrating the Irish connection of the Church

One area in the North of Glasgow is proudly celebrating the Irish connection of the Church in Scotland tomorrow on the day the Holy Father arrives, according to the Garngad Irish Heritage Group.

All along Royston Road and the periphery of the M8 Motorway along which the Pope Benedict XVI will travel, local people have erected Papal flags and Irish tricolours.
Following representation from the Irish Community, Archbishop Mario Conti of Glasgow has also agreed to two members of the Irish community receiving Holy Communion from the Holy Father in Irish national dress.

Danny Boyle and Maria Burns will represent the 150-year link between the Irish coming to Scotland and rejuvenating the Catholic presence here and the present day.
