18-LENTFEST-LAUNCH

Lentfest launches with glorious news

Archbishop Mario Conti and Lentfest director Stephen Callaghan greet Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon with the news that the Vatican has blessed the Lenten celebration of Faith and the arts in Glasgow

Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon (above) joined Archbishop Mario Conti of Glasgow today for the launch of Lentfest 2012 at Glasgow University’s Memorial Chapel.

Now in its sixth year, the Archdiocese of Glasgow Arts Project’s Lenten (AGAP) celebration of Faith and the arts has received a seal of approval from the Vatican.

At Tuesday’s launch, Stephen Callaghan, Lentfest director, read out a letter to Archbishop Conti—the founder of Lentfest—signed on Pope Benedict XVI’s behalf by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, cardinal president of the Pontifical Council for Culture, which was founded by Pope Benedict’s predecessor, Pope John Paul II.
