7-REAMONN-GORMLEY

Gormley murder trial could be filmed

The trial of the two men accused of killing Catholic student Reamonn Gormley, 19 may be filmed for a Channel Four documentary.

Windfall films are believed to have made contact with lawyers involved in the Gormley case and the Scottish Court Service about filming the trial for a series called Murder Trial.

The murder of Reamonn Gormley (above) in Blantyre on February 1 of this year shocked Scotland. He was stabbed to death as he walked home from the Parkville Hotel after watching a Celtic match there.

In the aftermath of the tragedy more than a thousand people marched through the streets of Blantyre in memory of the Glasgow University psychology student.

Daryn Maxwell, 22, of Hamilton and Barry Smith, 19 of Blantyre both face charges of murdering Mr Gormley.

The trial is expected to start at the High Court in Glasgow later this year.

If the trial were to be filmed any footage would be shown after its conclusion.

A Scottish Courts spokesman said: “Channel 4 is exploring a number of potential trials for possible filming. The final decision to film a particular trial will be made by the trial judge.”
