St Ninian’s High School in show of solidarity with persecuted Christians

St Ninian’s High School in Giffnock has become one of the latest schools to sign up to Aid to the Church in Need’s campaign to show solidarity with persecuted Christians around the world.

In total, 28 secondary schools across Scotland have signed up to the campaign that aims to educate school pupils about global citizenship, human rights and persecution. Around 350 pupils from Motherwell Diocese were urged to seek the person of Jesus as they began a Caritas journey of Faith in Motherwell’s Our Lady of Good Aid Cathedral.

Taking to the streets to save St Mary’s

Pupils, parents and supporters of an Alexandria primary school have taken to the streets to protest against a proposed relocation of their school to a new super campus.

Award nomination for Turnbull High School pupil after getting on his bike to fundraise

A young cyclist from Turnbull High School has been nominated for a top fundraising award after crossing the country to give back to the people who saved his life.

Patrick Kiehlmann (above) from Bishopbriggs has been shortlisted out of more than 10,000 people for the Young Fundraiser of the Year award given out by JustGiving, a website that facilitates fundraising endeavours. South Lanarkshire Council decides to end free transport for more than 1500 pupils

South Lanarkshire councillors have chosen to follow their counterparts in Glasgow by pulling free transport for more than 1500 schoolchildren.

At a meeting of the executive committee in the local authority headquarters, the decision was made to increase the distance required for secondary school pupils to receive free school transport from two miles to three. Glasgow City Council temporarily halts unpopular decision to cut free transport

Glasgow City Council has temporarily reversed a decision to cut free transport for a number of pupils at three schools in the city including two Catholic schools.

From this school term, pupils who live less than three miles from a secondary school and two miles from a primary will not get free transport to school, a change that sparked protests from parents across the city. Children at St Eunan’s Primary School in Clydebank explored the gifts of the Holy Spirit as they showed how to ‘love thy neighbour’ by helping those in need in their local community.

Pupils and staff at St Mary’s Primary School in Hamilton held back tears as they said goodbye to their headteacher with a medley of Rod Stewart songs and a special thanksgiving Mass.

Awards for pupils who were inspired by siblings

Two pupils from St Ninian’s High in Giffnock have been rewarded with national Diana Awards after being inspired by their siblings to raise thousands of pounds for people with cerebral palsy and autism.

Michael O’Neill, 14, whose brother Dominic has cerebral palsy, has collected £115,000 over the last three years for charity Bobath Scotland, who provide specialist therapy for those with the disability, while Sinea O’Hara, 12, raised thousands of pounds for charities in thanks for the help they provided her brother Cormac,... read more
