Man taken to hospital after serious crash with school bus in Dunbartonshire

A man has been taken to hospital and children treated for minor injuries, after a school bus was involved in a road traffic accident with a car, as it took pupils to a Catholic school in Dunbartonshire.

School pupils were travelling to Our Lady and St Patrick’s High School from Balloch and Old Bonhill on a double decker bus when the incident took place on Renton Road around 8.40am this morning.

Emergency services were on the scene, including an air ambulance, before the male car driver was taking to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Reports suggest a further two pupils have also been treated for injuries.

“The bus flipped on its side and the kids had to climb through the back window to get out of the bus,” said an eyewitness. “The driver of the car is trapped.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said that the pupils and bus driver had been assessed by medical staff, while a spokeswoman for West Dunbartonshire Council said: “A bus travelling to Our Lady and St Patrick’s High School has been involved in an accident on Renton Road this morning.

“Pupils were travelling from the areas of Balloch and Old Bonhill. Emergency services are in attendance.

“The children and driver from the bus are currently being assessed by medical staff. A number of pupils are being treated for minor injuries.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the crash. Renton Road is closed between Dalreoch Station and the slip road to the A82.

“All affected parents and carers have been informed. Parents needing any information should contact the school on: 01389 762101.

“Further information will be provided as soon as it’s available.”
