6-BISHOP-JOHN-KEENAN

Bishop Keenan calls for prayers before consecration of Scotland

Bishop John Keenan of Paisley has urged the faithful to join him in 40 days of spiritual preparation, as Scotland’s bishops get ready to consecrate the nation to Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Writing on social media, Bishop Keenan shared with followers a 40-day programme and invited them to take part in it, as yesterday marked 40 days until the official consecration at Carfin Lourdes Grotto on September 3.

The bishop described it as ‘kind of like an extraordinary Lent’ and asked that people shared the programme with others.“I shall being doing it daily and warmly invite every one of you to join me,” he said. “The consecration depends on fervent national preparation.”

The consecrate to comes in this the 100th anniversary of the Marian apparitions at Fatima, where Our Lady appeared to three young shepherd children, and she asked for Russia, and the rest of the world, to be consecrated to Jesus through her Immaculate Heart.

The programme asks that individuals ‘walk and pray these next 40 days in the sacrificial spirit of the three seers of Fatima – St Jacinta Marto, St Francisco Marto, and Venerable Lucia dos Santos.’

The programme consists of a number of ways in which people can prepare, including prayer, fasting, almsgiving and helping others in need.

It includes a different area of focus for each day in the lead up the consecration, beginning on July 26, and culminating with asking the faithful to attend the consecration on Sunday September 3 in Carfin.
