2-SCIAF-ZAMBIA

SCIAF’s aid to Zambia praised

SCIAF welcomed the High Commissioner for Zambia to its Glasgow offices today as he made an official visit to the charity.

SCIAF has been active in Zambia for many years and today boasts a major agricultural training project there, educating farmers in conservation agriculture allowing them to grow more food for themselves and promote more productive farming techniques in their local communities.

His Excellency Lt. Col. Bizwayo Newton Nkunika, the High Commissioner for Zambia, spoke of the crucial work being carried out by SCIAF in the country, and of the lasting impact such projects can have.

“I am delighted that you are doing work at Kasisi, an area where you are helping vulnerable but viable citizens,” he said. “The project is empowering people by providing them with critical life-saving skills.”

“Your support is in line with the new government’s focus on agriculture as one of the four areas of primary focus in its bid to reduce poverty among the most vulnerable in society.”

During the visit Lt. Col. Bizwayo Newton Nkunika was given a guided tour of SCIAF head offices and received a briefing from SCIAF’s Head of International Programmes Lorraine Currie. He also took the opportunity to meet with staff, who were delighted to welcome the High Commissioner to their offices, and to detail for him the vital work being done not just in Zambia, but across the developing world.

“We were delighted and honoured to have His Excellency visit our office in Glasgow,” said Philippa Bonella, SCIAF’s Head OF communications and Education.  “It was a great opportunity to share with him how the generosity of our supporters here in Scotland is enabling SCIAF to work hand in hand with our Zambian partners to help vulnerable communities to grow more food and stand in solidarity with the people of his country.”
