Justice and Peace Scotland’s national conference will take place next Saturday under the theme: ‘Work and social justice.’

This year’s conference will look at social justice in a number of contexts, particularly against the background of celebration of the anniversaries of the major documents of Catholic social teaching since Rerum Novarum.

Speaking at the conference will be; Professor Greg Philo (above), research director of Glasgow University’s media unit, who has worked on many issues of social justice; Geraldine Donnelly and Susan Cassidy, of Communitas, who will speak from a trade union perspective, and Tim Duffy of Justice and Peace Scotland, who will speak on the social context of the encyclicals and their place in Catholic social teaching.

Carol Clarke of Justice and Peace Scotland said she was hoping to see as many Justice and Peace supporters as possible at next Saturday’s talk.

“We are hoping it will be a good day for Justice and Peace supporters where we hope to discuss more about how Catholic social teaching affects work,” Ms Clarke, who stressed the importance of social justice in all aspects of work, said.

Next Saturday’s conference will take place at the Renfield St Stephen’s Centre, 260 Bath St, Glasgow, with registration commencing at 10.30 am with the conference due to finish at 3.45pm. There is no fee for attendance but donations will be welcomed.
